How entry works

The Selective Entry exam

  • All four selective entry high schools use the same entrance exam. The Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) manages applications and offers for the Department of Education.
  • The exam is held in June each year, for students in Year 8 applying for Year 9 entry.
  • Approximately 1,000 Year 9 places are available across the four schools.
  • The knowledge needed in any section of the exam does not go beyond the Year 8 curriculum.
